Bill basics

What’s on an Electricity Bill?

Most bills combine several charges and adjustments. Reading each line separately makes the total easier to check.

01

Energy / Consumption Charges

The charge linked to the electricity units recorded during the billing period.

02

Fixed Charges

A recurring charge that can apply based on your connection, sanctioned load or consumer category.

03

PPAC / FPPAS

A power-purchase related adjustment that may reflect changing fuel, generation and procurement costs.

04

Taxes / Duties

Government levies or duties shown separately on the bill, where applicable.

05

Previous Balance / Adjustments

Earlier dues, credits, rebates or corrections carried into the current bill.

06

Total Amount Payable

The final amount due after all current charges, balances and adjustments are combined.

Understand the adjustment

PPAC / FPPAS in simple terms

Distribution companies procure electricity from different sources. Fuel prices, generation costs and market conditions can change, so power-purchase related costs may be adjusted under the applicable regulatory framework.

Check your latest bill, your provider’s official information and current DERC orders for the rate that applies to your connection.

Why can the amount change?

It may vary with the billing period, regulatory treatment and the underlying cost of power procurement.

Does every consumer pay the same?

Not necessarily. Provider, consumer category, period and applicable orders can affect the amount.
